Anti-wrinkle injections are medically known as Botulinum toxin which is a naturally occurring protein which when injected into facial muscles stops them from contracting, hence we refer to this treatment as anti-wrinkle injections. Botulinum toxin is used to prevent new wrinkles and reduce the appearance of old/dynamic lines. Anti-wrinkle products target the creases created when you move your face muscles. By temporarily relaxing the muscle we reduce the number of times you will be able to create a line or crease. As a result, your skin appears smoother and wrinkle-free. Dermal fillers, on the other hand are used for static lines, the lines and contours of your face that are not made from movement but are always there. Dermal fillers consist of hyaluronic acid (HA) Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body. It is a substance that retains moisture and can bind over one thousand times its weight in water. We use dermal fillers to fill out, add volume to enhance or shape facial features and rejuvenate the skin.
Filler results can last up to 12 months after treatment. This will depend on the area treated. As with all dermal filler treatments, filler lasts longer when built up gradually over time with repeated treatments. Each client is different - lifestyle factors can play a role in how the filler is metabolised by different individuals. Note: Hot climates, sun beds, smoking and fast metabolism speed up filler breakdown. Anti-wrinkle injections are recommended every 12 weeks.
As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved with the use of dermal fillers. Most side effects associated with dermal fillers, such as swelling and bruising occur shortly after injection and many resolve in a few days to weeks.
Prior to treatment we remove any make-up and cleanse the area to be treated. We apply a topical anaesthetic to the area to inject. The product is placed using either a cannula which keeps swelling and bruising to a minimum or a needle. Discomfort during the treatment should be minimal. The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
The following details will be given to each client and emailed after their procedure for them to refer to. We use REVOLAX filler which is a premium product. It is a high quality HA dermal filler with three different product options. It is a non-animal derived, biodegradable filler with the purest hyaluronic acid and has great longevity due to its highly cross-linked formula. Anti-wrinkle injections depend on your consultation and recommended prescription.
Pregnant women or breast feeding mothers. Patients with certain conditions affecting the connections between nerves and muscles (such as Myaesthenia Gravis and Eaton-Lambert Syndrome) people with a previous allergic reaction to botulinum toxin, or with allergies to egg or human albumin and people taking aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as chlarithromycin, gentamicin etc.)
Anyone with a skin infection in the area should not be treated. Caution should be exercised in any patients taking blood-thinning medication such as Warfarin, Rivaroxaban and Clopidogrel, simply due to the possibility of severe bruising.
When should I begin treatments? In terms of anti-aging prevention, the sooner the better. However whilst there is no particular age limit, those with deeper wrinkles may benefit more from dermal fillers than this. A full consultation with Lauren will help determine the most suitable course of treatment to meet your needs.
